TD Canada Trust statement to Excel: PDF to reconciled workbook
Convert TD credit-card, chequing, and business statements to Excel, CSV, or QuickBooks (.qbo) with reconciliation to the cent. Built for Canadian TD layouts.
If you bank with TD Canada Trust and you're tired of retyping every line off your PDF statement into Excel, this is the lazy way to do it. Drop the PDF on Balancely and you get back a reconciled, four-sheet workbook in under a minute — Summary, All Transactions, Vendor Summary, and Categories. No regex template per statement layout, no manual sign cleanup, no copy-paste.
Balancely is built specifically for Canadian statements. TD is one of the issuers we test against on every release. Here's how it works for TD customers and what you can do with the output.
The 60-second flow
- Sign up at balancely.ca/signup (free, no credit card).
- Hit Convert, pick Credit card or Bank, drag your PDF onto the dropzone.
- Wait 30–90 seconds while Statement AI reads every transaction.
- Spot-check the preview tabs. Categories auto-fill from any rules you've saved previously.
- Click Download ▼ and pick a format — Excel (.xlsx), CSV, or QuickBooks (.qbo).
That's it. The workbook lands in your downloads folder; the job appears in your history for 30 days (free), one year (Pro), or seven years (Business).
What TD statement types we handle
- TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite, Visa Infinite Privilege, and TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite
- TD Cash Back Visa Infinite, Cash Back Visa, and TD Business Cash Back Visa
- TD Platinum Travel Visa, TD Rewards Visa, and US Dollar Visa for snowbirds
- TD Every Day Chequing, Unlimited Chequing, and Minimum Chequing accounts
- TD Business Savings, Premium Business Savings, and Small Business Chequing
If your specific product isn't listed, try it anyway. Statement AI handles arbitrary Canadian PDF layouts with the same engine and reconciler. If reconciliation fails, the workbook ships with an amber “check totals” flag so you know to double-check before forwarding to your accountant.
The four sheets, and what to expect
Summary
One row per statement. Opening balance, payments, returns, purchases & fees, interest, new balance, minimum payment, period dates, reconciled status. For credit-card statements, every cell renders as a negative outflow — summing the column equals the change in balance, which is what your bookkeeper expects. For bank statements, canonical signs are preserved. See the three-sheet workbook explainer for the full design rationale.
All Transactions
Every transaction across every uploaded PDF, sortable and filterable. Date, type (PURCHASE/PAYMENT/RETURN/FEE/INTEREST/CASH_ADVANCE), description, category, signed amount, FX note where present. Foreign-currency line continuations are folded back onto the parent transaction so TD statements that span CAD and USD reconcile cleanly.
Vendor Summary
Top vendors by absolute spend. Description text gets lightly normalized (first 40 chars, uppercased) so “UBER EATS HELP.UBER.” and “UBER EATS HELP.UBER.COM” roll up together instead of fighting for column inches.
Categories
Aggregated by your saved vendor → category rules. The 14 default categories are tuned for Canadian freelancers — Meals (50% deductible), Vehicle & Fuel, Office Supplies, Software & Subscriptions, Professional Services, and more. Tag a Petro-Canada transaction once, and every future TD statement auto-categorizes it. Manage rules at /dashboard/categories.
TD layout quirks Balancely handles
- TD's two-column "Transactions" / "Payments and credits" layout is parsed as a single chronological stream so totals reconcile against the printed Account Summary.
- Multi-line descriptions ("STARBUCKS #4422 / VANCOUVER BC") are concatenated into one row rather than splitting into two.
- Foreign-currency transactions with the explicit "1.0379 Exchange Rate" continuation line are merged onto the parent.
- Cash advance fees that TD prints below the cash advance itself are classified as FEE, not a second CASH_ADVANCE, so the buckets reconcile.
- Year inference for transactions dated "Dec 28" on a January statement points to the correct year.
Exporting straight to QuickBooks
Instead of Excel, click Download ▼ → QuickBooks (.qbo) on the preview. The file is OFX 2.x Web Connect — QuickBooks Desktop and Online both accept it directly. Your category from the saved rules lands in the QuickBooks Memo field on each transaction, which is the cleanest way to surface bookkeeping context without remapping to QuickBooks' own category system.
Bookkeepers who reconcile multiple TD accounts for clients can use the same flow per account: one PDF per upload, one .qbo per statement. Multi-statement batches export as a zipped bundle so your import workflow is one click.
Privacy and what Balancely keeps
Your PDF is processed in memory and discarded the moment the workbook is built. We don't archive TD statements. The audit row that lands in our Postgres database contains the filename, the document type, parser confidence, reconciliation result, and a few summary totals — no individual transactions. See the security page for the full posture.
Start with one statement
The free tier gets you two conversions to start — one credit-card and one bank statement. Pro is $9.99/month for 25 PDF conversions a month; Business is $19.99/month for 60. Prices in USD. No credit card to start.
Create an account and drop your TD statement on the dashboard. The workbook should land in your downloads folder before you finish your coffee.
Try Balancely on your next statement.
Two free conversions to start — no credit card required.
